Expert and non-expert perspectives
Tom Stafford at Mind Hacks has posted a neat demonstration of how learning affects perception. He shows how the mystery picture (above) loses its mystery and cannot be seen in its original form, once the viewer learns the secret behind it. This sort of demo is useful in explaining to designers why interfaces that are perfectly logical to them (with their expert knowledge) can sometimes be difficult for new users to understand.
