Britannica - user-generated content

According to BBC News Encyclopedia Britannica will now include user-generated content, albeit separated from expert articles. At the same time it's inviting experts to update their topics and re-designing in order to incorporate this new approach. This has been some time coming but I wonder whether this isn't too late, now people are so used to Wikipedia (even with its potential for inaccuracy) for free.
