Designing for use
There is an article in ComputerWorld about anthropologists working in IT teams. I like the quote from Eser Kandogan of IBM, 'A technologist can make sure a tool is usable, an anthropologist can make sure it's used.' It's another way of highlighting the difference between deciding, first, what to design, then how to design it and explaining why some products, no matter how well designed, aren't used because they don't fit with people's needs.
